Moga is one of the districts in Punjab, India. It is exactly situated in the centre of Punjab and major cities of Punjab can be easily accessed from here. Moga is not that famous for its tourist attractions but still, you can explore the top eight tourist places to visit in Moga.

Moga is a kind of religious city from a Sikhism point of view and is surrounded by a number of historical gurudwaras. Moga is also a normal and simple city without much traffic. However, it is developing at a fast pace.

Where is Moga situated and what it is famous for?

Moga is a district in Punjab state of Northern India. It is situated on National Highway–95 and 100 KM away from the famous city Amritsar.

It is the birthplace of famous freedom fighter “Lala Lajpat Rai”. It is also famous for its gurudwaras and sale mandis of tractors and jeeps. Geeta Bhawan of Moga is a well-known Hindu temple.

By whom Moga was built?

The city was established by “Moga Singh Gill” and the name of the city is also his surname. He was the forefather of the Gill community of Jatt Punjabi Sikhs. It became the 17th district of Punjab in year 1995. Earlier, it was a sub-division of district Faridkot.

Geeta Bhawan and Kashmiri Park

Geeta Bhawan temple is the main attraction of the city and is located in the heart of city.

It is a famous Hindu Temple.

It is in close vicinity of Kashmiri Park and the park is just on the opposite side of temple.

Aarti is being performed every day in the temple.

This is the busy tourist spot of the city.

Kashmiri Park is well maintained and has a variety of plants, trees, and flowers.

You can spend 3 to 4 hours in the lap of nature and in peace here.

It has also the availability of outdoor games for kids free of cost.

Outside this Park, there is ample availability of local street food (like Pani-poori, samosa, juice, soft drinks, etc.)

Nestle Factory:

It is a dairy plant and renowned worldwide for its various products such as Maggi, Chocolates, and coffee.

It is a premium high-class milk plant in India.

It is exactly situated on the National Highway 95 opposite the city secretariat building (Administrative block).

People are not allowed to visit this factory but one can visit this place with the permission of management authorities.

Gurudwara Nanaksar (Jagraon).

It is a famous gurudwara located just at 25 Km distance from Moga city on National Highway 95.

This gurudwara is related to Baba Nand Singh who spread the message of Guru Nanak Dev Ji (1st Sikh guru) to the masses.

This gurudwara is beautifully built and has a huge Sarovar (Water pond). This place is visited by a number of people on daily basis.

Guru ka Langar (Free food) is served to the visitors 24 hours a day.

Gurudwara complex is huge and maintained by the organization which does not accept any cash/offerings at this holy place.

It is well connected with the Rail and Road network. One can easily reach here by Bus or train from Ludhiana or Moga. The cab is also available at a reasonable price.

Gurudwaras of Daroli Bhai (Guru Ka Mahal Attari Sahib)

Daroli Bhai is a small village which is located at just 10 Km distance from Moga city. This village is famous for its three historical gurudwaras which are related with mainly 6th Sikh Guru “Guru Har Gobind Sahib Ji”

Guru ka Mahal attari sahib is the famous historical gurudwara of this village. It is the birthplace of Bhai Gurditta Ji (Son of Guru Har Gobind Sahib Ji)

Brief History: It is the place where Bhai Saain ji and his wife were residing. They were the relatives of Guru Har Gobind Sahib Ji. They have basically constructed this beautiful house for Guru Har Gobind Sahib and his family. They wished that Guru sahib ji should live here. The request was accepted by Guru Har Gobind and they stayed here for 18 months at different intervals.

The old house is still preserved in its original state.

Some belongings and artifacts of Guru Har Gobind sahib and Guru Gobind Singh (10th Sikh guru) are also preserved here. These belongings include:

  • Guru Har Gobind’s Chola (Complete suit/dress)
  • Guru Har Gobind’s turban
  • Guru Har Gobind’s footwear (Kharawan)
  • Guru Har Gobind’s cupboard
  • Mata Damodri’s shawl
  • Hand written copy of Guru Granth Sahib
  • Hukamnamas and Stamp of Guru Gobind Singh
  • Other kitchen utensils of that time used by Guru Har Gobind.

There are 2 other gurudwaras which are also in the close vicinity of Guru ka Mahal attari sahib and are beautifully built.

The main festival of Maghi is celebrated with great enthusiasm every year in the month of January and people from neighbouring villages as well as from other districts visit here and pay their homage to this place.

Gurudwara Mehdiana Sahib

This Sikh shrine is also known by name of “School of Sikh History”. It is situated in the village Mehdiana near Jagraon, Ludhiana. It is just at the distance of 10 km from Gurudwara Nanaksar and is well connected with roads.

Brief History: As per Sikh history, it is the site where Guru Gobind Singh (10th Sikh guru) and his army halted after the battle of Chamkaur against the Mughal armies of Aurangzeb.

This gurudwara has various handmade sculptures showing the important events of Sikh history.

Each sculpture is captioned with full details of the related event and you can have in-depth knowledge about the Sikh religion. The language used to mention these details is the Punjabi language.

There is also a holy Sarovar where devotees take bath.

Gurudwara Lohgarh Sahib, Dina Sahib.

It is also known by the name of Gurudwara Zafarnama Sahib. It is situated in the village Dina of District Moga. It is at a distance of 45 KM from Moga city.

Brief History: Guru Gobind Singh came here from Anandpur Sahib via Mehdiana Sahib and stayed at the house of Bhai Desu ji. He served guru sahib with great devotion. From this place, Guru Ji wrote Zafarnama (Letter) to Aurangzeb (Muslim ruler of India at that time) challenging his authority boldly. Guruji wrote this Zafarnama to criticize the cruel acts of Aurangzeb and his ministers. After staying for some days, Guruji left for Muktsar sahib (Another religious city of Punjab).

Besides the daily routine, a religious fair is held every year on the occasion of Maghi which comes in the month of January.

Gurudwara Gurusar Sahib, Lopon.

It is located in Lopon village of Moga and is just at the distance of 8 km from Moga city.

Guru Har Gobind Sahib Ji visited this place two times.

There is a tree in the Gurudwara complex that was dry at that time and Guru Har Gobind poured the water into its roots and made it green. People have great faith in this sacred place and visit this place regularly.

Main Bazaar (Market) and Bagh Gali (street)

The main market of Moga and is well stretched out starting from Bus station to sekhan wala chowk covering an area of approximately 10 km.

Within the main market, the Bagh Gali (street) is famous for shopping for almost all kinds of things. There is a two (2) number street adjoining Bagh Gali which is famous for various restaurants and eatery shops. You can enjoy delicious food items here.

How to reach Moga?

Moga is well connected with roads and railways.

It is at a distance of approximately 350 Km from Delhi, the capital of India. It can be easily accessed by road by bus from Delhi or by cab. The National Highway 95 which is passing through Moga connects with National Highway 44 from Ludhiana which directly goes to Delhi.

It is also well connected with Railways and is the cheapest and best option to reach here.

Sri Guru Ramdas International Airport, Amritsar is the nearest airport to Moga and is just at the distance of 110 KM.

Overall Review: Moga is my home town and I spent 25 years of my life here. I have a special feeling for this city in my heart. It is a calm and peaceful city more like a countryside area.
