A beautiful city with stunning natural beauty, Udaipur has been ranked amongst the top ten cities to live in India by India Today magazine. Here in this article, I will share the 9 best things to do in Udaipur in 2 days.
Rajasthan in India is known as Desert State but Udaipur will give you a different perspective about this dry state.
I visited this city twice in my life. This time, I am sharing the whole information about Udaipur with you from a tourist point of view. To make things navigable and easily understandable, I have designed Udaipur Travel Guide in FAQ format.
Location of Udaipur
Udaipur is located in Rajasthan state of Western India. It is located on a ridge in the Aravalli hills at an elevation of 568 m above sea level, overlooking Lake Pichola and surrounded by hills.
How to reach Udaipur?
Udaipur is well connected with all means of transport and you can reach here by adopting anyone out of the following ways:
By Road: Rajasthan has a very good network of roads and these roads are wide & 6/4- laned Highways. The distance between Patiala, Punjab to Udaipur is approximately 850 KM and you can reach here in 14 hours by driving your own car. Udaipur is at a distance of 600 KM from New Delhi, the National Capital of India. You can also plan your trip to Udaipur after exploring the other famous cities of Rajasthan like Jaipur, Bikaner, Jaisalmer and Jodhpur which are nearby. You can easily book a cab/taxi or bus to reach Udaipur from New Delhi. You can book your bus tickets through the Redbus app/website.
By Train: Udaipur Railway Station is a busy station & is connected to major cities of India. You can book a direct train from Jaipur Railway station to Udaipur to reach here in 5 hours only. The railway is the most economical way to travel to Udaipur. For more information and booking the train, you can visit the official website of IRCTC or download the app IXIGO.
By Air: Udaipur airport is known as “Maharana Partap Airport” is situated at Dabok, 22 km East of Udaipur. It operates only domestic flights and is connected to major cities of India. You can book your tickets through Makemytrip.com or IXIGO app which I personally use.
Which is the best time to visit Udaipur?
The best time to visit Udaipur is from October to March as the weather remains pleasant during this period of time. Other months of the year are hot and scorchy and this area is much hotter due to its close proximity to the Thar Desert.
You may also enjoy the beauty of Udaipur in the monsoon season (June-July) as well.
What are the best things to do in Udaipur in 2 days?
There are a number of places to visit in Udaipur. But here I would discuss only those places of interest which are most visited & worth to see. Here are the 9 best things to do in Udaipur in 2 days:
Day 1:
- City Palace, Udaipur. – Morning (9:00 am to 12:00 pm)
- Pichola Lake, Udaipur – Noon (12:00 pm to 2:00 pm)
- Jagmandir – Noon (Included in Pichola Lake Boating)
- Bagore Ki Haveli – Afternoon & Evening.
Day 2:
- Fateh Sagar Lake, Udaipur – Morning (9:00 am to 11: 00 am)
- Jagdish Temple. (Before noon)
- Sahelyion Ki Bari – After-noon
- Moti Magri – Evening
CITY PALACE UDAIPUR
The City Palace of Udaipur is a royal palace in the city of Udaipur, in the state of Rajasthan in India.
It is located in the center of the city, near Lake Pichola & is the main attraction point of the city.
Built during the reign of Maharana Udai Singh II (1568–1620), it was subsequently modified by various rulers of Mewar.
The palace complex consists of a series of courtyards and residential buildings, including the City Palace, the Lake Palace, the Museum, and several other palaces and gardens.
The City Palace is considered as a wonderful blend of Rajputana and Mughal style of architecture.

It requires a minimum of 3 hours to fully explore this palace so try to visit it in the morning hours to avoid the crowd.
Entry Ticket (INDIANS): INR 30 Per Adult & 15 per Child of age 5-12 years
Photography is allowed inside but you have to purchase a separate ticket of INR 200 for the camera.
Timings:
9:30 am to 5:00 pm (All Days)
Remains open for all days.
There is a restaurant at the entry gate of the City Palace where you can enjoy drinks and snacks with a scenic view of the Palace.
PICHOLA LAKE, UDAIPUR
Pichola Lake is also known as Swarn Sarover or Golden Lake located in the center of Udaipur city and is in close proximity to City Palace. You can access this lake on foot from the city palace.
It is an artificial lake created in the 15th century by Maharana Udai Singh II (1469–1537) as part of his Udaipur palace. The two islands located at the center of the lake were built by the king to protect it from flooding.
The Pichola Lake is spread over an area of 10 sq km and it is surrounded by lush green hills. The picturesque location and serene beauty of this lake make it one of the major tourist attractions in Udaipur.
Udaipur city has grown around this lake.
Lake Pichola has four main islands namely Jag Niwas, Jag Mandir, Mohan Mandir and Arsi Vilas.
A trip to Lake Pichola is incomplete without a boat ride in the serene lake, especially during sunset. Lake Pichola boating tickets are available at City Palace and are priced at Rs. 400 to 600 for Adults and Rs.200 for children. For sunset cruises, the tickets are priced at Rs.700 for Adults and Rs.400 for children.
With a seating capacity of six to eight, the boats are covered with a canopy. The boat ride starting from Rameshwar Ghat, first takes the visitors to Lake Palace. The boat then takes them to Jagmandir where the visitors can spend some time appreciating the scenic views.
The sunset view from the boat is truly magical, as is the changing colours of water from blue in the morning to golden in the noon and orange during sunset. During the night, the reflection of palace lights on the water is another sight that is sure to leave one spellbound.
There is no entry fee to visit Lake Pichola.
The Boat Rides Timings are from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
You can easily spend 2 to 3 hours here enjoying the beauty of this place. It is advised to do boating in the noon after exploring the City Palace.
FATEH-SAGAR LAKE
Fatehsagar lake is located in the north of Lake Pichola right across the Moti Magri Hill.
Lake Fatehsagar is the second-largest artificial lake after lake Pichola.
Surrounded by the high Aravalli hills on three sides and Pratap Memorial on the north side, the lake is considered the pride of Udaipur.
There is no Entry Fee to visit Fatehsagar Lake.
The Timings of Fatehsagar Lake are from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Boating is the best way to take a quick tour of Lake Fatehsagar. There are many boating stations on the lake from where you can make your own choice according to the availability and your budget for boating.
JAGMANDIR
An exquisite palace located on a lake island that is also known as Jagmandir Island Palace is a sight to behold as one visits Lake Pichola. Located near the southern side of the lake, this palace occupies Jag Island. More commonly known as “Lake Garden Palace”, Jagmandir Island is visited by tourists in huge numbers.
Jagmandir is open from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on all days of the week.
The boat ride ticket price to Jag mandir is Rs. 450 per person from City palace. After 3:00 pm, the ticket fee for the boat ride is Rs. 700 per person.
BAGORE KI HAVELI
Bagore ki Haveli is the 2nd famous most place after City Palace which is being visited by tourists in Udaipur. It is a museum & located on Gangori Ghat on the bank of Lake Pichola. It can be easily accessed on foot from the City Palace.
Any art lover would love to explore the Bagore ki Haveli for its splendid architecture and exquisite craftsmanship. Reflecting the Mewar’s aristocratic culture, Bagore ki Haveli is a marvellous assortment of huge courtyards, balconies, jharokhas (attached with latticed screens), decorative archways, cupolas & fountains.
Bagore ki Haveli museum is divided into five sections namely
- The Puppet Museum,
- The main haveli,
- The Turban museum,
- The Weapon museum,
- The wedding section
Dharohar Dance Show at Bagore ki Haveli
The main attraction of Bagore ki Haveli is the Dharohar Dance Show that is conducted in the evenings starting around 7 pm. This hour-long show takes place in the courtyard called the Neem Chowk.
The Dharohar dance show at the Bagore-ki-Haveli is a colorful, vibrant show with traditional Rajasthani folklore and culture. The skills and artistry of the performers are definitely worth seeing.

JAGDISH TEMPLE
Jagdish Temple is located just at a distance of 150 m from the City Palace gate. It is known for its architecture. The main temple is approximately 79 feet high.
Jagdish temple is a significant temple and monument which is open to all.
There is no ticket levied on the entry of the temple.
You can visit the temple any day as it is open on all seven days of the week, you will never be away from God.
SAHELYION KI BARI
Saheliyon ki Bari also known as the Garden of Maidens is a marvellous structure created by a man for a woman.
It is located on the banks of Fatehsagar lake and is a unique place for sightseeing in Udaipur.
It is a perfect place for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts. You can easily spend 2 to 3 hours here exploring the wonders of nature preserved for a long time.

9:00 am to 7:00 pm (All days)
MOTI MAGRI/ MAHARANA PARTAP MEMORIAL
Situated at approximately 10 KM from the City Palace, a memorial is built to honour Maharana Partap Singh, the greatest warrior in Indian History.
The sculpture of Maharana Partap is installed here that is 11 feet high & can be viewed from a distance.
There is a museum here where you can see the artifacts and other historical facts related to Maharana Partap.
Due to its close proximity to hills, one can have great lamdscapic views.
It requires only 1 hour to completely explore this museum.

Where to stay in Udaipur?
Udaipur being a famous tourist spot, you can find a number of hotels to stay ranging from lower to higher budget. Broadly categorising, there are 2 main areas to stay in Udaipur –
(1) around lake Pichola, and (2) a bit far from the central area.
If you stay near Lake Pichola, then you can have a rooftop look or balcony view of the lake from your hotel. Another advantage is that major tourist attractions can be accessed on foot. But it is a crowded area & there is also a problem with car parking.
To avoid the crowd, you may book your stay away from the central region.
I had a wonderful experience of staying at the UDAI KOTHI near lake pichola Udaipur which is a 3-Star hotel. The room was spacious and clean, with an amazing view of the lake. The breakfast spread was lovely and delicious. The facility of a swimming pool on the rooftop with a lake view restaurant is here to enjoy your leisure time.

What’s the best way to get around Udaipur?
There are the number of options that you can select to explore Udaipur city. The cheapest option is to hire an autorickshaw (Tuk-Tuk) that would cost less than INR 100 to visit the main tourist points.
Another option is to book a taxi or cab through Ola or arranged by Hotel.
How many days are enough for Udaipur?
2 days are enough to explore the important tourist places of the city. However, if you are a nature lover then you can spend as many days as per your time schedule because the vibes & environment of Udaipur city will mesmerize you.
How was my experience?
Udaipur is a must-visit place for every tourist. It’s a beautiful city with lots of things to do and see.
Udaipur is also known as the “Venice of the East” and “The most romantic city of India”. Udaipur is a fascinating blend of new and old, an experience that can be enjoyed by tourists visiting the town.
I spent 2 days here to explore the palace, temples, lakes and narrow streets of the city. I enjoyed my journey to Udaipur & I will visit again to this romantic place in future.
