MEMORABLE VISIT TO LALBAGH BOTANICAL GARDEN BENGALURU (2022)

INTRODUCTION

On my visit to Bengaluru, I visited numerous famous places. Bengaluru is also known by name of “CITY OF GARDENS” because it has a lot of gardens, parks & greenery. Out of those famous places in Bengaluru, today I will share every detail about “LALBAGH BOTANICAL GARDEN” from a tourist point of view.

Spread across 240 acres of land, Lalbagh is one of Bangalore’s famous gardens.

The Lalbagh Botanical Garden is one place you absolutely must visit on a trip to Bengaluru. It transports you to a totally different world, away from the crowded city to a vast open space filled with fragrant blooms and lush greenery.

LOCATION OF LALBAGH BOTANICAL GARDEN

Lalbagh botanical garden is located in South Bengaluru. The exact address is Lalbagh Road, Wilson Garden, Near BMTC Office, Bengaluru, (Karnataka).

It is just 4 km from the State Legislature, the Vidhana Soudha, in the Jayanagar residential area.

HISTORY OF LALBAGH BOTANICAL GARDEN

The Lalbagh Botanical Garden was started initially as a private garden in an area of 40 acres by Hyder Ali, one of the most famous rulers of old Mysore in 1760. This garden was further developed by Hyder Ali’s son Tipu Sultan and subsequently by the British and Indian doyens of horticulture by extension of area and addition of a number of plant species. This garden was designed in a style similar to that of Mughal gardens.

Lalbagh is currently under the Directorate of Horticulture, Government of Karnataka.

Lalbagh was given the status of a Government Botanical Garden in 1856, and since then, it has been an internationally renowned centre for the scientific study of plants and botanical artwork.

Lalbagh botanical garden is popular for its creatively designed lawns, water pools, fountains and flowerbeds.

It also showcases rare plant species that have been brought from places such as Persia, France, Afghanistan, etc.

An ancient rock formation is another major attraction of this botanical garden.

IMPORTANT ATTRACTIONS IN LALBAGH BOTANICAL GARDEN

Lalbagh Botanical Garden has a number of places to visit. These places include:

You may visit all these places as per your convenience & time. It requires approximately 2 to 3 hours to visit all these places within the garden.

You can explore Lalbagh Botanical Garden either on foot or by hiring an electric vehicle.

Apart from the above places, you can also drink juices/cold drinks & eat different fruits at the stalls installed at various spots inside the garden.

TIMINGS TO VISIT LALBAGH BOTANICAL GARDEN

Lalbagh botanical garden is open daily from 6 AM to 7 PM.

ENTRY FEE FOR LALBAGH BOTANICAL GARDEN

Entry is free during the early morning and late evening (6 to 9 AM and 6 to 7 PM).

A nominal fee of INR 30/- per adult applies during the daytime.

FACILITIES AT LALBAGH BOTANICAL GARDEN

Public toilets are available near the Glass House.

Lalbagh has 4 different entrances one in each direction making it easy for visitors to enter and exit as per their convenience. West Gate is very close to Lalbagh Metro train station while parking is available at the double road entrance.

Lalbagh has several shops run by the horticulture department of the Karnataka Government as well as a few private vendors. These shops sell fruits, vegetables, fruit juices and various snacks items.

BEST TIME TO VISIT LALBAGH BOTANICAL GARDEN

You can visit Lalbagh Botanical Garden at any time of the year because the weather remains pleasant in Bengaluru all over the year. But the best time is to visit from October to March months as the temperature is low as compared to other months.

Try to visit this garden either in the morning hours or in the evening hours to avoid direct sunlight.

HOW TO REACH LALBAGH BOTANICAL GARDEN

You can reach here by adopting any one of the following means of transportation.

By Bus: Regular BMTC buses are there in the city which you may use to reach here.

By Autorickshaw/Cab: You may also reach here by booking a cab/taxi or an autorickshaw. You can easily hire any of these vehicles online using the UBER/OLA or RAPIDO (Especially for autorickshaws) app.

By Metro: The nearest Metro Station to this garden is “Lalbagh Garden”. It is the cheapest & comfortable mean to reach here.

HOW WAS MY EXPERIENCE?

My experience at Lalbagh botanical garden was wonderful. I spent 3 hours here & enjoy the green lush beauty of this place. Unique spots in this garden engage you the whole day with lots of knowledge and peace. Floral Clock welcomes you to the garden standing at the entrance of the park. You get amazed by the 20 million-year-old coniferous tree(a tree fossil). Glass Hose, a magnificent piece of glass art. A lecture hall where horticulture classes were held during the old days. A cool breeze was blowing near the lake.
